About
KUMARA SQUAD
"Kumara" means "sweet potato" in Māori, the indigenous language in New Zealand, where the founder of this website Karen grew up and still resides.
She believes one needs a strong connection to their roots to have a complete identity.
Kumara, being a root vegetable, therefore seem fitting. Its Cantonese name 蕃薯 sounds similar to Cantonese term 番書妹, describing some with Chinese origins bringing Western ideas home after studying aboard.
It takes a village to keep Chinese alive in your household when living away from your native origin. Welcome to our squad!
